We aim to build a stronger community, support local businesses & make South Woodford a better place to live & work.

     South Woodford Society

Our area has so much to offer with a diverse range of local amenities, groups, clubs and societies, for all age groups. But as the old adage goes "use it or lose it" hence we advise everyone to get involved in our community.

Best of all It’s FREE

Elmhurst Gardens has recently had a new pathway installed to allow easier access for disabled and those with buggies. Two tennis courts and a very active Bowling Club. It is a firm favourite of local young families, dog owners and many others.

The Railway Bell, with it's new look, is once again becoming a firm favourite with all the locals, young and old. Providing breakfast, lunches and evening meals, with a dog friendly courtyard garden, it is a great place to meet your neighbours in a relaxed atmosphere.

George lane a historical street full of lively Cafés, bars and a range of shops. A very nice place to spend the afternoon.

The George, a pub full of history, with a buzzy atmosphere, and two nice outdoor areas. The crowd tends to be younger in the evenings.

Originally the Majestic cinema on the High Road, opened on 5th November 1934 with Claudette Colbert starring in “Cleopatra” and the opening was presided over by Winston Churchill, who at that time was the local Member of Parliament. Today it is a seven screen Odeon. But the fine Art Deco cinema designed by architect S.B.Pritlove is still widely loved by young and old . It is the last working period cinema in the borough and we are proud to have it.
